“Those who dare to fail miserably can achieve greatly.” – John F. Kennedy

Hello there,

It’s has been an honour to represent you these past four years as a Parish Deputy of St Saviour, in what has been a period of time that has tested us greatly. But we have endured. Proud to have served and help make a difference.

With my proven past track record representing the parish and, in the States Assembly, I’m even more focused, experienced, matched with the energy to help make a difference in anyway I can for my Island. Much to do.

We know what the challenges are for our island, we have been talking about them for more than four years! But now with rising inflation and a housing crisis not only making it out of reach for islanders to afford a home, but it’s also becoming out of reach for islanders to even stay and call Jersey their home. What's stopped us from meeting these challenges is mostly a disconnection of leadership and accountability. We need less self-interests and less division and better “Genuine Jersey” communication. Here is just a snapshot of just some of the things I have done:

   Deputy Of St Saviour

  • District No 1 (Vingtaine de la Petite Longueville) - Now, full Parish Mandate

  • Supporting the Constable in protection of parish Green fields in the Island plan Debate

  • Supporting the work to introduce and see in Parish Recyling

  • Work on safer routes for families and speed limits

  • Parishioner case work ranging from support for families or individuals with housing, mental health issues etc

  • Vice-Chairman: Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel

  • Led reviews into Mental Health, Maternity Services, Jersey Care Model, Hospital and Budget spending.

  • Succesful Proposition and Amendments brought to the assembly fully approved

  • Lead Scrutiner - Covid19 Government and Health & Community Services

  • Brought more targeted investment into Mental Health Services and championed for better pay for nurses

  • Brought winning proportions to make STAC Minutes public and COVID19 Mental Health enhanced strategy

  Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (Jersey Branch)

  • Executive Committee member - Representing Jersey across the UK, Europe and the World

  • Representing Jersey at the 64th Annual Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference in Uganda

  Chair of Liberation75 and more

  • Appointed to Chair Liberation75 overseeing the plans around Liberation Day in 2020

  • Overseeing and approving all aspects to mark the special milestone (scaled back due to COVID19)

  • Organised a big screen for the World Cup for Islands to attend the World Cup outdoors in 2018

  • Spent a full voluntary  24 hours on the ground with staff at the Jersey General Hospital

I had also been one of the most active States Assembly Members. From attending Parish Assembly to our regular parish events. To supporting you during the pandemic and lockdowns with regular videos and lives sat in front my old piano and the many books on top. To being on hand to meet you in person or at the parish hall.

I have never missed a States Sitting through illness (only for away for States Business/Family Funerals etc) I have also proven myself to be able to work to earn respect with all members in Scrutiny and Government Officers/staff.

I was one of the most consistent members to ask Questions during the past four years, both written and oral. Not afraid to use my voice as well as take part in debates always researching and bringing, when needed, fact based speeches during most important debates. Or when bringing forward propositions or amendments in my scrutiny panels name or as myself. Each one I did bring to the Assembly passed, which I was very proud of.

I still believe the greatest asset to this island, is its people who call it home. Our island Community is our DNA. Here is what I hope the new assembly will carry forward among many other things:

  • The new Constable and Deputies, work as unified team to create safer, cleaner, shared road pathways that directly involves parishioners’ input with the schools and colleges

  • Protect again the parish against unjustified overdevelopment in the next Island Plan.

  • Ensure that part of the Education provision for schools includes St Saviour at the heart of it, to once and for all reduce the capacity and waiting lists in our parish primary schools.

  • Mental Health: Build on the outcomes I have led on, including the construction of a new much-needed acute in-patient facility, improvements to the current facility, better financial investment, and the other needed changes I secured. But waiting lists reduction will my top priority as well and urgently increase all the schools counselling provision.

  • Dementia: Request through a proposition, that the much-delayed strategy is brought forward as a matter of urgency. Including improved community, patients’ pathways with a review of all mental health capacity laws and the work is, once for all, fully funded.

  • Care model: Ensure that our islands charities are not overburdened and protected as work continues with the Jersey Care model. Bring forward a carers strategy to help the financial and health burden for many of our struggling pensioners. Based on the scrutiny I have led on, seek to establish a local independent board to refocus and monitor performance, costs, deliverability of health care and be publicly held to account.

Other Areas:

We need to broaden and support our local economy, support the middle class of this island urgently. Education funding improved and ring-fenced. I believe we need to look again at tax and taxing of pensions to find simpler and better ways to support our elderly population. And after all my work these past few years to see through a safe and fit for purpose choice of Assisted Dying for islanders while we enhance our Dementia and Hospice as well.

Here's to the future and what it brings.
